Time and time again, Countrywide and its employees have responded to the call for "help" during times of need. While Countrywide continues to lead our industry in mortgage lending, it is important that our values and integrity remain firmly rooted in lending help to our friends and neighbors in need. When a Tsunami struck Southeast Asia, employees generously gave donations to aid in Disaster Relief efforts. Just nine months later, Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast and devastated thousands of lives. Countrywide and its employees again responded by joining together to contribute more than $1.2 million in employee donations and corporate matching funds. Most recently, in October 2007, Wildfires in Southern California ravaged thousands of homes and displaced entire communities. Scores of Countrywide employees were among the displaced victims, and were able to receive immediate assistance from the company.
Our approach is two fold: we seek to help employees, customers and residents in need.
  • The Countrywide Foundation's Short-Term Employee Disaster Relief Fund provides donations to employees residing in the U.S. impacted by a qualified disaster. Financial resources are provided to employees to help offset reasonable, short-term expenses not covered by insurance, such as temporary housing, food, clothing, and transportation.

  • Through Rebuilding with Countrywide, we have expanded our relationship with our core charity, Rebuilding Together, to help individuals and families affected by recent hurricanes in the Gulf Coast region. As the lead sponsor of Rebuilding Together's Rebuild 1000 initiative, Countrywide has committed up to $1 million toward the $4 million goal to repair hurricane-damaged homes. This commitment includes up to $500,000 in matching funds to encourage others to donate to this worthy cause.
In the past three years:
  1. Immediately following the Southern California Wildfires, Countrywide Financial Corporation mobilized to help affected customers and employees. Displaced families who lost their homes were offered REO properties as temporary dwellings, and more than 60 employees received $80,000 in immediate disaster relief assistance from the Countrywide Foundation.

  2. The Countrywide family pledged a total of more than $1.2 million to the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricane relief effort, in employee donations and corporate matching funds.

  3. Through employee donations and a company match, the Countrywide Foundation assisted over 400 employees who were affected by the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricanes.

  4. Over 1,500 employees donated more than $250,000 to Tsunami Relief, resulting in a total contribution of $500,000.
